Keeping Children Safe During Seizures

One of the scariest things about being a parent and caregiver of a child with epilepsy is watching them have a seizure. The best thing you can do is learn what to do in these situations, and it starts with safety. Here are some safety tips to remember if your child drops to the floor and starts jerking with a seizure.

Move anything that could hurt them Put something soft, like a pillow or folded blanket, under their head Turn them gently to one side to stop them from choking Loosen anything around their neck Take a video of the seizure to share with your doctor if you can Keep track of how long the seizure lasts if you can’t video the whole thing Try to stay calm
